This classroom is dedicated to Honey Collins, a longtime supporter of Universal Promise for whom education has always been a cornerstone: one that shaped who she is and the paths she has taken. Those deep-rooted feelings about education began when Honey was just a child in Atlanta, Georgia. There she attended The Lovett School, a place that instilled in her a love of learning and a strong sense of community. Honey continued her passion for learning, for art, and for history at the University of Georgia, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Art History. While initially considering a career in arts consulting, Honey discovered her true calling, interior design, after the birth of her two children, Hull and Nora. As she created spaces for her growing family, she realized how much she loved transforming environments to bring joy and functionality to others. Her decision to pursue a career in interior design remains one of the most fulfilling of her life.
Honey extended her deep regard for education to her children, who attended St. George’s School, a secondary school in Newport, Rhode Island. While there, Nora had the life-changing opportunity to volunteer with Universal Promise in South Africa, where she witnessed first-hand the transformative power of education. When Nora returned, her enthusiasm and her stories resonated deeply with Honey and strengthened her desire to support access to quality education for years to come: not only for her children but for other children, as well, no matter where they may live.
Honey has done just that by donating over and over again to projects that fuel Universal Promise’s mission. She has funded scores of school uniforms, eliminated financial obstacles for university students to pursue degrees, paid for children to get eye exams and spectacles, and allowed hundreds of learners and their families to get that boost of hope that enhances dignity and makes them, in their own words, “feel human again.”
Universal Promise is grateful that Honey believes “education is more than just acquiring knowledge; it provides stability, enriches lives, and helps individuals grow. It’s a foundation for self-confidence—a key ingredient in achieving success. Education provides the tools we need to express ourselves, share our ideas, and make independent choices. It’s something that belongs solely to us, enabling both financial and personal independence.”
We are also grateful that Honey’s actions and words are in step and that we have this opportunity to celebrate her, her altruism, and her empathy. As Honey shares, “Receiving videos of children in their new uniforms, their faces beaming with pride and confidence, fills me with gratitude and reminds me that all contributions create ripples of positive change.”
